Stratiolaelaps scimitus (Hypoaspis) mites are predatory at all life stages, feeding on soil-dwelling pests with each mite consuming 5-8 prey per day. Females lay eggs in the soil, where mites can also survive on algae and plant debris when prey is scarce. They help control thrips by targeting pupae in the soil and can go up to 7 weeks without food.
